Ojo de Dios is Spanish for “Eye of God.” When the Spaniards came to Mexico they met the Huichol (wet-chol) people who lived in the Sierra Madre mountains. The Huichol made Ojos de Dios for their altars. They were woven on to criss-crossing sticks, joining in the center. The ends of the sticks represented the basic elements–earth, air, water, and fire. The center of the eye stood for the power of seeing and understanding things we normally cannot see. Other Native tribes have adopted the use Ojos de Dios. Making one is inviting the Eye of God to watch over them. Often they are made for little children as gifts. They accompany wishes of health, long life, and protection.
You can use this talisman in a variety of ways—to place in your area of meditation or prayer to protect against negative influences and help draw the gaze of the divine, to use as you would a dream catcher and place above your bed for protection while you sleep, you can place it above your door in your home for general protection, or hang it from your car's mirror to protect against accidents. Use your Ojo de Dios in the manner that feels 'right' to you.
